Bici Day

May 8th, 2011 by

Today, 8th of March 2011, the whole of Italy is on the road with their twowheelers to celebrate the national day for bikes.

The UISP association which is the abbreviation for Unione Italiana Sport Per tutti, has provided 50000 bikes for people in 80 different cities in Italy to give a big contribution to this day.

Talking about the bike day lets go straight to Florence that is of course one of the main location for this celebration. What better place to kick start this event then the Cascine! Yes..if you were there I’m sure you had a great time. Kids, ladies and gentlemenall padded up to participate with the Italian tricolor flag proudly tied to their bikes. A day to welcome everyone to come out of their homes and altogether enjoy the surroundings around us, leaving our daily hectic routine behind.

This occasion is to send a  message to who is responsible, to prove the city lifestyle, to ensure its cleanliness, oriented to take care of the citizens and improve the bike tracks wherever possible. Florence in fact has been working on this and has pedestrianized a decent part of the city center. Now the next step is going to be to pedestrianize even the Via Tornabuoni, well known for its luxurious shops and the epicenter for shopping in Florence.

The Cascine is a wonderful spot for a picnic, sunbathing, and practicing all kinds of sports in the enormously stretched green lands. One can feel how this part of the city keeps a silent and relaxing vibe over itself. Do check it out!
